The server applications of Microsoft Office

For my fourth post, what I’ll be talking about are some server applications that come from Microsoft Office…

EXCEL SERVICES

The 2007 and 2010 versions of SharePoint includes what is called Excel Services. It is a server technological application which can enable users to display workbooks from Excel on the server of SharePoint 2010. Also, users can take their Excel workbooks and use them for loading and calculating. With Excel Services, whatever workbooks users create are what they can reuse and share on portals and dashboards of the 2010 server of SharePoint.

Furthermore, there are many more things that end-users can do with Excel Services like:

• Using an internet browser to view live-interactive workbooks of Excel
• Interacting with workbooks of Excel and exploring data
• Using an internet browser to analyze charts and reports from a PivotTable
• Having connection strings to external services of data either in the workbooks of Excel or to centrally save them in a library file with a connection of data

MICROSOFT INFOPATH

Microsoft InfoPath is a server and software application used for stuff like designing, distributing, filling and submitting electronic forms with data structure. It was initially released with Microsoft as part of the 2003 version of Office. With this software application,  it can feature what is called a WYSIWYG form designer that can be formed to have data and also a view of folders and fields of data.

MICROSOFT PROJECT SERVER

Microsoft Project Server is a type of server solution given by Microsoft and is meant for project management. With Project Server, it can use SharePoint as its own foundation to support an interface either from Project as a client application or from an internet browser being connected to a component of its Project Web App (PWA).

MICROSOFT SEARCH SERVER

Microsoft Search Server is a platform server for an enterprise search and is brought by Microsoft. This server is based on the capabilities of doing a search from the SharePoint server. With Search Server, it can share underpinnings of architecture with a platform of Windows Search for both the engine of queries and indexers. Also, it can provide a interface with a search center to give the UI for querying.

SKYPE FOR BUSINESS SERVER

Skype for Business Server is a software server used for instant messaging, presence, VoIP, ad hoc and structured conferences and a connection of PSTN either throughout a third-party getaway or a SIP trunk. With this software server, it can be known for real-time communications.

The web services of Microsoft Office

In my fifth post, I’ll be putting in some web services that are included from Microsoft Office…

DOCS.COM

Docs.com is a website that users can go to for discovering, uploading and sharing documents on their profile page from Office. With Docs.com, there are file types which can be supported under Office such as Word documents, Excel spreadsheets,  PowerPoint presentations, Mix video presentations and even Sways. Also, users can take PDF files and URLs and add them onto their page. This website is part of the online version of Office.

OFFICE ONLINE

Office Online is an online version presented by Microsoft. With this online version of Microsoft, most users can use it for anything like:

• Taking in files to create and edit with lightweight
• Having internet browser based versions of applications from Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote)

Also, it offers other web services like Outlook.com, People, Calendar and even OneDrive in which all can have access from an app switcher. Furthermore, Office Web App Server which is another online version of Office Online can have an installation on private clouds in any conjunction with server applications of SharePoint, Exchange Server and Lync Server.

OFFICE SWAY

Office Sway is a web app and program used for presentations which is a part of Microsoft. What Sway allows users to do are combining text and media to make a professional website that can be presented to anyone. With this web app, users can take the content and automatically bring it right from the device either within its use or from online sources such as Bing, OneDrive, Facebook and YouTube. With Sway, users can view and edit from any type of internet browser with an app from Office Online. Also, they can access it with apps for Windows 10 and iOS except for other additional apps which are being developed for Android and Windows Phone.

Microsoft Office which now has an official website can provide stuff on:

• How -to articles
• Tips
• Training courses
• Templates
• ClipArt
• Stock photos
• Media
• Additional add-ins for programs on Microsoft Office
• Tools with a productivity-enhance
• Online-based services

WINDOWS UPDATE

Windows Update is a service given by Microsoft regards of providing updates for components of Windows. With Windows Update, it can have a replacement with an expanded version called Microsoft Update which uses other software like Office, Windows Live Essentials and Expression Studio. Usually, most clients of Windows Update would download updates over an Wi-Fi connection even though Microsoft can make adjustments for having installations of updates on computers without a Wi-Fi connectivity and range of alternated methods.

OFFICE 365

Microsoft uses Office 365 which is a brand name given by them for a group of subscriptions providing productive software and other services to subscribers regards of software plus services. For others, Office 365 can allow the use of apps from Microsoft Office on Windows and OS X giving a space of storage from OneDrive and a grant of an hour of Skype per month. For most users in businesses and enterprises, this service includes plans like services of social networking and e-mail with other applications like:

• Exchange Server
• Skype for Business Server
• SharePoint
• Office Online
• Integration with Yammer
• Access to the software of Office

SKYPE FOR BUSINESS

Skype for Business is what they are called messaging cells used either with Skype for Business Server or Lync Online with the 365 version of Microsoft Office.

MICROSOFT PROJECT

Microsoft Project is a software program used for project management.  With Project, it can help others to design anything that can be assisted in such as:

• Coming up with a plan and developing it
• Finding resources and assigning them to tasks
• Making a track of progress
• Having a budget management
• Taking down workloads and putting them down to analyze

MICROSOFT VISIO

Microsoft Visio is an applications program used for creating diagrams and putting in vector graphics. It is also a part of Microsoft Office.

MICROSOFT SHAREPOINT DESIGNER

Microsoft SharePoint Designer is a free software program which is meant for a discontinuation of HTML editing. With SharePoint, you specialize it for Microsoft SharePoint sites that can either be created or modified, have workflows and even web pages. Formerly, it was a part of the 2007 version of Office but was not included in any of its suites. But with this free software, it can be filled with a whole variety of recommended products.

MICROSOFT WORD

Microsoft Word is a word processing software program. It can be used for typing in letters, doing reports and even other documents too.  Some of the tools you get from this program are:

• The Quick Access Toolbar
• The Title Bar
• The Ruler
• The Text Area
• The Vertical and Horizontal and Vertical Scroll Bars
• The Status Bar

All about Microsoft Office

For my first post, I’ll be giving a brief description of what Microsoft Office is all about…

Microsoft Office is a productive software that is comprised of applications,  servers and services which are brought by Microsoft. The software was first announced by Bill Gates at a computer expo called “COMDEX” held at Las Vegas on August 1, 1988.  As of Microsoft Office being known as a computer software term for a complete set of applications, the first version to be included was Office, Word and PowerPoint. As years went by, the applications of Microsoft Office have started to grow closer with some shared features such as a common spell checker, OLE data integration and even Visual Basic for Applications, a scripting language. Another thing about Microsoft Office is that it can be positioned as a development platform for a line of business software under the brand of Office Business Applications. On July 10, 2012, Softpedia made a report saying that Microsoft Office is used worldwide by over a billion people. For other systems like Windows and OS X,  the software can be available in a desktop version.  Also, it can be available pre-installed right on Windows RT tablets. Furthermore, Office Mobile, a mobile version of Microsoft Office can be used for free on devices such as the Windows Phone, iOS and Android. For those who do not own Microsoft Office,  they can use an online version of it titled as “Office Online”. What Microsoft states is that plans to do a version of Office for other platforms as well. The latest desktop version of Microsoft which is Office 2016 has been released on July 9, 2015 and September 22, 2015.
